Snuffy's Malt Shop Roseville (now The Original Malt Shop)

April 9, 2013

Snuffy's Malt Shop Roseville is under the same management with a very similar menu, but has rebranded as The Original Malt Shop.

Since this is the time of year for flower shows, Mike and I headed to over to the Como Zoo and Conservatory with my sister for some animal and flower viewing on Saturday.  Personally, I liked Como's spring flower show better than the Macy's version--the Sunken Garden is a lovely, intimate venue, and the rich purples, blues, and magentas made for a vividly cohesive palette.

One of the nice things about visiting my sister is that she lives in close proximity to Snuffy's Malt Shop, where we stopped for lunch.  Snuffy's is a classic burger joint, with an extensive malt menu that you can customize by mixing any two flavors together.  They have a few vegetarian options: Snuffy's Salad,  a veggie burger, grilled cheese and veggie sandwiches, and an egg salad sandwich.  I went with the grilled veggie sandwich on wheat, sans cheese, and a chocolate ice cream soda.

Chocolate Ice Cream Soda

The grilled veggie sandwich was tasty, packed with mushrooms, tomatoes, green peppers, and cucumbers on thickly sliced bread (and no, it doesn't come with a bite taken out of it.  That was all me.)  However, the highlight of my meal was the soda.  I love chocolate ice cream sodas, but they're tricky to find--the only other place I've found them is the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shop at Downtown Disney in Orlando (and the last time I was there, it wasn't listed on the menu anymore, but they were still willing to make one).  Personally, I think Snuffy's version can hold its own against Ghirardelli's for a fraction of the price and without requiring plane ticket.

Although I didn't get any pictures, Mike thoroughly enjoyed his Hot Bacon Bleu Burger and Snuffy's Favorite Malt (butterscotch and brownie pieces), and my sister liked her custom malt concoction of banana and chocolate chip.  A note on the malts: a half malt will fill up a tall float glass twice.  Mike has ordered a whole malt only once, and it was impossible to finish, even with generous assistance provided by yours truly.
